What is morris dancing, you ask? Well, many others have asked the same question, and, lucky for me, many others have answered it, so I don't have to. Briefly, it's a type of English folk dance. Here's some interesting information about morris dancing in general, and Bay Area morris teams in particular, and here's the text from the brochure that we hand out to people who see us dancing and wonder what the heck we're up to.
If you'd like to see us dance, here's our performance schedule. If you'd like to learn how to morris dance yourself, come to our free late-summer morris workshops at Berkeley's Grace North Church. 2138 Cedar St, Berkeley, CA 94709.

Morris dancers periodically gather together in conventions called "ales," so named because of the most popular activity at them (after dancing, of course, but that goes without saying, doesn't it?). Berkeley Morris has hosted several ales so far. click Here for a partial list.
This is a totally unsolicited plug for the Jupiter, our favorite pub and our invariable post-practice destination. The Jupiter has a magnificent selection of local microbrewed beers, pizzas and sandwiches to die for, outdoor seating for those hot summer days, and a friendly staff that tolerates little quirks on our part, like for instance our tendency to grab assistant managers and plunk them into the middle of a set of "Blue Bells of Scotland." If you visit Berkeley, visit the Jupiter; if you visit on a Tuesday night, you'll probably find us there.
